Catechist Certification Programs

THE PRE-CERTIFICATION VIDEO PROGRAM

The Pre-Certification program consists of eight basic areas of instruction. The areas are designed to enhance your personal life, provide insights into church teachings, and strengthen basic skills for learning in the classroom. The completion of this program provides the catechist with PRE-CERTIFICATION through the Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux and may be applied towards basic certification with an additional 60 hours of instruction. The following areas are covered:

· Creating an Environment of Learning
· Introducing and Using Scripture
· Introduction to the Sacraments
· Prayer and the Liturgical Year
· Understanding Doctrine Today
· Who Do You Say I Am? Jesus Christ
· Partnership with Families
· The Social Teachings of the Church

BASIC CATECHIST CERTIFICATION PROGRAM

The Basic Catechist Certification program consists of eight areas of enrichment and learning. These are designed to enhance your personal life, provide insights into church teachings, and deepen your relationship with God. The completion of ten (10) clock hours of instruction in each area of this program provides the Catechist with Basic Certification through the Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux. Our courses address one or more of the following areas:

· Basic Methods
· Basic Doctrine
· Scripture
· Catholic Church
· Jesus Christ
· Faith Development-Being formed into the image of Christ
· Moral Development
· Prayer and Worship

MASTER CATECHIST CERTIFICATION PROGRAM

Master Catechist Certification through the Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux builds on the foundation built in Pre-Certification and Basic-Certification. The requirement of one hundred and eight (108) hours of instruction are in addition to the eighty (80) hours completed in Basic Certification. Twenty-eight (28) of the one hundred and eight hours of instruction are chosen by each individual for specialization in the areas listed under Concentration in a specific ministry. The design of these areas of concentration is made in consultation with the Diocesan Director of Religious Education. As a participant in the Loyola Institute For Ministry Program, Master Catechist Certification, through the Diocese is granted upon completion of the six core curriculum courses.
