► What is Singles Enrichment Ministry?
The Diocesan Office of Family Ministries, Singles Enrichment Ministry program is designed to address the needs of singles in our area.
Singles Enrichment Ministry is a gathering for all single adults whether single by choice or circumstance, for those who have lost a spouse through death or divorce and also for those who have never married.
The office held it’s first singles gathering in November 2010. The participants were eager to share their ideas about what they are seeking. Suggestions included guest speakers, holiday themed gatherings, game nights, dance lessons, starting a travel group, group sponsored service projects, DJ and dancing, pot-luck suppers and the list goes on and on.
► How often are the Single Enrichment gatherings?
Singles Enrichment gatherings are currently being held quarterly. More gatherings will be scheduled as the ministry and team of volunteers grow. Please send us your email or mailing address to notified of future gatherings.
► What other programs are available for someone recovering from a divorce or grieving from loss?
Support Groups:
St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Thibodaux offers a share group for separated and divorced people. It is offered on the 4th Thursday of every month from 6:30pm to 8:00pm in the Church Café Area located on the NSU campus. Please call 985.448.0405 for additional information.
Maria Immacolata Catholic Church in Houma offers a Support Program for those older than 35 years of age, single, separated, divorced or widowed. It is offered on Wednesdays from 6:30pm—8:00pm in the Gathering Center at their church. Please call 985.876.3313 for additional information.
The Mourning Star group is for someone grieving from loss. This group meets in the South Lafourche area. For group meeting dates and times please contact our office for contact information for this group. 985.850.3154
►Does the Diocese offer counseling services?
Yes. The Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux, Office of Family Ministries, offers counseling services by appointment only, Monday-Thursday. The session fees are calculated on a sliding scale dependent upon the client’s household income. Mrs. Nancy Diedrich, LPC, LMFT is the diocesan counselor. The mission of our singles ministry is to nurture a community of faith, hope and love for the never married, separated, divorced, and widowed, - recognition of the role of singles in the diocese, and social interaction among single adults within the Catholic Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux. Singles Enrichment ministry is under the Office of Family Ministries for the Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux.
