What is a Steubenville youth conference?
Steubenville is a town in Ohio. Franciscan University is in Steubenville and there are many conferences on campus throughout the year. The youth conferences have been happening at the University since 1975. The first off campus youth conference was held in Alexandria, Louisiana in 1995. There are now youth conferences in Atlanta, Denver, Minneapolis, Attleboro, Tucson, St. Louis, Alexandria, San Diego, and Steubenville. This will be the fourth year for a Steubenville conference in the Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux.

Who is the Bishop of Houma Thibodaux diocese?
Bishop Sam Jacobs.

Why should a young person attend a Steubenville youth conference?
The whole vision for the conference is to lead teens to Christ and to give them a deeper understanding and love for their Catholic Faith.

Can I send my youth alone?
In order to provide the best possible context for fellowship, sharing, ministry, and supervision, the youth conferences handle registration by groups only. No individual registrations will be accepted.

What are the criteria for youth, group leader, and chaperone?
Group Leader: the adult responsible for organizing your trip and serving as the main contact for your group. Written and oral correspondence takes place between the Group Leader and the conference office. The Group Leader must be attending the conference and will be responsible for the entire group. Adult Chaperone: young adult, age 21+, attending to chaperone the youth. For the safety of the youth and to foster productive small group times, the ratio of youth to adult is 1 adult per 10 youth in your group. We ask that your group not exceed the maximum adult to youth ratio.

*This weekend is challenging physically and spiritually. It is a time of deep ministry and small group time. We recommend chaperones feel comfortable directing, sharing, and praying with youth. * Please refer to the group leaders manual for further information.

Youth: youth participants attending the conference must be entering 9th, 10th, 11th, or 12th grades in the Fall of 2012 or be a 2012 high school graduate.

Where will we stay?
Group Leaders are responsible for making all housing arrangements for the group. Off-Site and On- Site Housing is available. Off-Site Housing refers to local hotels and dorm housing on Nicholls State University campus. On-Site Housing is limited and refers to the housing in local schools. On-Site Housing is $10 per person for the weekend and is available on a first-come-first serve basis as groups register and pay their deposits.

What will the weather be like?
Louisiana can be very hot in June. Even though the conference area is air conditioned, please advise your group to drink plenty of water, get regular sleep and eat all meals while at the conference.

When and where is this year's Bayou Conference held?
June 15-17, 2012, at the Houma-Terrebonne Civic Center in Houma, Louisiana.
