2012 Steubenville Theme: The Eighth Day

The Eighth Day

We are pleased to announce the summer 2012 theme for the Franciscan University of Steubenville High School Youth Conferences: The Eighth Day.

"The eighth day. But for us a new day has dawned: the day of Christ's Resurrection. The seventh day completes the first creation. The eighth day begins the new creation. Thus, the work of creation culminates in the greater work of redemption. The first creation finds its meaning and its summit in the new creation in Christ, the splendor of which surpasses that of the first creation."—Catechism of the Catholic Church 349

"But now thus says the LORD, he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel: "Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine.”—Isaiah 43:1

The Eighth Day begins the new creation. We are living in the Eighth Day; a phrase used to refer to God’s ongoing work of redemption through Jesus Christ in the day that knows no evening (CCC 1166). Jesus came to teach us how to live, suffered and died for our sins, and conquered death through His Resurrection.

The summer of 2012, we will journey into the reality of Christ’s redemption and what it means for our lives today! And as we enter into the many challenges we face as Christians today, Isaiah 43:1 reminds us to fear not! Our God, who created us, is calling us by name, offering us the gift of redemption, and claiming us for Himself to protect and love. Join us summer 2012 to dive deeper into this great love!
