Hello, Everyone!
May God's peace and joy be with you as we begin 2024. January and February bring the opportunity for our diocese ot highlight the work of Catholic schools. The exceptional gift of Catholic education began here well over a century ago. We are reminded throughout our days, weeks, months, and years how blessed we are to continue our centuries old traditions of faith formation, academic excellence, and strong traditions of intellectual formation. Today, just as yesterday, we prepare students to be good citizens who are prepared for this life as well as the next.
One might ask, what distinctive characteristics are found at a Catholic school that may not always be present at other schools. In the schools of the Diocese of Homa-Thibodaux, woven into the fabric of the school's curriculum is the intentional formation of the entire human person. For example, spirituality is innate. Therefore, we work daily to develop the spirituality of everyone on campus. Every human capability is considered when building and planning the program of study in a Catholic school. From Mathematics, which teaches us to view the order of God's universe to strong language skills, we are working daily in pursuit of intellectual, physical, virtuous, socieal-emotional, and moral capacities. Our educators are intentional in developing every aspect of the human person in the school and on the playground.
Our partnership with parents is wreathed within the relationship between home and school. This is an intentional partnership with both Canon Law and the Catechism of the Catholic Church providing a roadmap towards the acknowledgement and process of partnering with parents in the formation of their children. While parents have the inalienable, extraordinary privilege and responsibility as the primary educators of their children, our Catholic schools find immense opportunity in the development of this partnership. This partnership provides the invitation for our parents to attend the weekly school mass, join our Parish for Sunday mass, visit the school on days of invitation, and utilize the 21st century tools present to strengthen the partnership with the school. Tools such as the learning management system (Google Classroom), Plus Portals, social media, smartphone apps (digital gradebooks), and personlzied ocmmunication systems keep parents close to the school and involved in the process of educating the children. Ultimately, a strong home and school partnership allows for formation twenty-four hours a day, creating extraordinary outcomes.
As we begin 2024, we personally invite parents of children in the Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux to reach out to your local Catholic school. Oftentimes, some parents express financial concerns over affordability. Our schools will work with parents in guaranteed tuition financing, assisting with grant programs, and offering school-based financial aid. Do not let a financial concern prevent you from attending our schools. The structures and resources of affordability are at your disposal. We personally invite you to reach out to us. We will answer your call or email quickly, and we look forward to speaking with you.
MOving forward, we would like to encourage you to join us. Attend a school mass. Attend a Sunday mass in your local parish. Follow us on social media. We are passionate about the formation and educaiton of a community's most precious asset, the children. We are traveling forward with conviction and purpose, and clairty is before us. We accept the responsibility to educate our children. Please pray for our success, and know of our prayers for each of you.
